When using VPS\Dedicated servers, new users often don’t know how to start working, as there are some differences between usual hosting service, where everything is already set up and dedicated server with root access, where you need to configure it for yourself. Of course, we help with this as much as we can and in this article we will try to describe common steps that a user should make to start working with dedicated server. This article is written for those who purchased dedicated server running ISPManager Lite panel.

1.  Login to control panel as root user.

When you purchased VPS\Dedicated server service, you receive standard e-mail with login information and the address to login. This data can also be checked in My Mail Billing section of your account.

The e-mail contains the following information:

If you ordered VPS\DEDICATED service with ISPManager panel, you receive login information as below. Our technical specialists will install the panel on server within one working day from the moment of service activation.

Then follow the link provided in this e-mail and login to the panel using this data.

2. Initial setup of a server.

When you login to the control panel for the first time you will have to go through several simple steps, such as accept the agreement, set time zone, read the instructions, etc.  

Then you should do the following:

a)      Set PHP directives in PHP Settings section at the left part of the panel. Set memory_limit to 256 Mb, script running time to at least every 90 sec, file size limit to 200 Mb.

b)      Configure existing PHP extensions and set additional ones in PHP Extensions section at the right top corner. We recommend to set up at least php-gd additional extension.

c)      In the Features section (also at the left part of the panel), you can enable additional services that you need, for example, nginx or fast-cgi. This is optional, but it is possible. All the main features enabled by default.  

d)     In the Server Settings section you can set your time zone.

e)      If you ordered an additional IP-address, you need to add it to IP-addresses list.

3. After that create user account for work. To do this, open Users section and press Create. Set login, password and in the Permissions tab check all the available options. Leave all the rest as default.

4. Now when necessary user account is created, press Exit at the right top corner and login as this user.

That is all, the initial setup is finished. Then you can work on dedicated server as on usual hosting. You can login to FTP as user you’ve created. You can bind a domain, create databases, upload files and start working with your website.

Note that to bind a domain to dedicated sever you need to have your own DNS-server (which is not worthwhile in most cases) or register our name servers on ns1.shneider-host.ru ns2.shneider-host.ru domains and contact our technical support service to add you to our DNS-server. For it, you should submit to us your VPS\IP-address and the domain name which you would like to bind. Otherwise, the domain won’t work.
